So as to not seem selfish, I’m posting all upcoming games for the second round eliminations. This is mainly for easy reference. Pardon the slightly cockeyed alignment of the table below. Microsoft Word gave  me headache and don’t even talk to me about Excel. Courtesy of our friends from Inboundpass.com

If Tita Cory tipped the scales to our advantage in Game 1, she had a week’s time to rally up the troops in the high heavens to give us an emphatic blowout win. This game was unlike anything I’ve seen since that killer against UST. Complete domination from the opening tip to the last buzzer. No more easy lay-ups from an aspiring kung-fu blackbelt. No last second coronary-inducing trifectas. And certainly no more overtime. Just sweet, unadulterated destruction.

And Rabeh had his game face on.

As the seconds trickled down on the last quarter, there was a rather dark collective thought balloon looming over the green side. What on earth are we doing here? Do we not have better things to do with our Sundays? Must be the reason why gate attendance fell from 22,000 last week to only 17,000 this week (don’t look at us, we’re filled to the rafters).

I think it’s safe to bet that Mr. Atayde’s keyboard will once again be up for another furious beating. His last piece was entitled “Adamson Deserves The Win” and in it, a scathing diatribe about the virtually insubstantial Archer veterans. A particular favorite being Bader Malabes. Well apparently nobody in the coaching staff paid any attention. Malabes went right out and added more insults to an already gaping injury. Quick! Somebody pass Mr. Atayde his difribrillator! And maybe a thesaurus for when he revives himself to look up more synonyms for the word “rabid”.

But enough about that. I’m just happy everyone came out to play today. Eric Salamat with his thievery (the kind he will definitely not be indicted for). Baclao with his assists, put-backs and exclamation blocks. Salva with his 15-footers. Jai with the rainbows. Captain Kirk with the acrobatics. And of course, Al-Hussaini for getting back into MVP form. We know it was the sprain that did it, we just can’t explain how.

So if there were ever any doubts on the way the last two games were won, they’ve been thrown into the rubbish pile on this blessed, blessed day.

GO ATENEO! ONE BIG FIGHT!

~Post Script~

Notice how the game barker prolongs the word “two” more than usual. Why is that?

**deep breath**

LAAAST TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MINUTES!!!!!!

After he’s done, the game may very well be over. Very strange.

This is information emailed to me by a fellow UAAP fanatic. Of course these are only ADMU games (believe me I’m not being selfish, I just can’t find the full schedule anywhere online). From the looks of it, we don’t have to wait very long for the next Ateneo-LaSalle fight-to-the-finish. After all this is over, I may have to take a few weeks off to sweep my nerves from all over my living room floor.

Anyway, here it is.

It is a cruel, cruel irony.

Joshua Webb of DLSU played a monster game but in the end it was his foot that proved to be a detriment to their cause.

One other thing. Rabeh Al-Hussaini is in his last year of eligibilty but I’m not worried about the “MVP” graduating. He twisted his ankle in the fourth quarter but somehow the team held Fort Knox. In fact, I think we did better without  Butterfingers turning the ball over time and again. Among the long list of commentaries I ploughed through, someone said he needs a Chris Tiu to set up his game and keep his tantrums in check. I could not agree more. Now that he’s been orphaned he doesn’t seem to inspire much confidence.

Anyway, I will not go into the nuts and bolts of the game. I will leave that to the multitude of sports critics and kibitzers out there just itching to put their two cents in. Regardless of what has been or what will be said, let’s face it. There is nothing in the world that can blow our blood pressure through the roof like an Ateneo – La Salle game.

Except maybe that loss to UP. But that’s a different story.

At a minute and forty-seven seconds left, my index finger hovers over the little green “off” button on the remote. Then I did something completely unprecedented. I didn’t finish watching the game. My nerves couldn’t take anymore and neither could my lungs. Already I’ve gone half way through a pack of Marlboros I bought  just this afternoon. I had a splitting headache from having to watch turn over after turn over. Output was dismal. Defense was horrendous. Rabah turns butterfingered. And after getting a ticker tape parade for hitting 6 from beyond the arch in the UST game, little man Monfort was just not there. Nobody was there.

A rather egregious oversight, you would think. An entire team decides to go on a coma on this lazy Sunday afternoon. How about going for a stroll, boys? And in the meantime, we can all follow your asses around with lace parasols while you figure out how to get back on track from this embarrassment.

I can already see the cloying David and Goliath references sprawled across the sports news tomorrow. Winless UP tap dances all over the high and mighty defending champions with a ten-point lead.

It’s the story that’s been trod out and played like a broken record. When complacency peeks its ugly head from out of the Blue, Ateneo takes a spill with a loud thud. Think NU in 2007. There are no words.

After this loss, all I can say is: Hindi ako yung may balat sa puwet. Wala ako sa Ultra nung nangyari ang kahindik-hindik.

So that’s that. On to the next.
