And next thing we know, it’s 2008…
Fact:
When I was 10, I honestly believed that the world will come to an end in the year 2000. I remember casually thinking to myself, “too bad I only have until 18 to live.” Crazy kid. Was she the self-proclaimed doomsday prophet of her fourth grade class? I see the scholarly child psychologists huddled together with nostrils flaring and eyebrows in the air. Didn’t exactly stand on a wooden box in the middle of the playground proclaiming the bad news but I thought it nonetheless. Can you tell I was off to a very optimistic start?
Now I’m 25. The meteor that’s supposed to have fallen from the sky to extinguish life is 8 years past due ( knock on wood ). I thought I’d make some changes in the way I ran things in my life. Since I already quit smoking and have stayed clean for 3 months, I can no longer claim that as a new year’s resolution. Unless maybe I decide to take up some random pagan religion from the Dark Ages and start my lunar calendar on some weird date, say October 17th. And no, my new year’s resolution is not to start sacrificing innocent guinea pigs to the glory of the harvest moon.
I decided to stop being this wormy, don’t-wanna-go-anywhere-but-home geek. I’m going to start going on actual trips outside of this island.
I know, I know. Considering my track record, it is uncharacteristic of me to have something as optimistic and as cliche as a new year’s resolution. So let’s not call it that. Let’s call it the Self-Induced Lifestyle Alteration Program or S.L.A.P.
So to you, my dear witnesses, let this be my first ever S.L.A.P. stipulation: Get your ass out the house and go somewhere! Before that proverbial meteor does fall from the sky…In the confusion, all flights will be grounded and it would take forever to hike to Bohol. Don’t think the boss would be too happy if I showed up for work 3 months later smelling like dead fish.
Just for the record, I am going to Bohol…And yes, I’ll be back armed with tons of pictures and tarsier fridge magnets.
